My LA Trip: LaLa land must do’s

My LA trip was just the life medicine I needed. I’ve fallen in love with the place.

LA is so laid back and there is so much going on there that a week wasn’t enough. We went in the end of  January so the weather wasn’t amazing but it was warm and sunny and in the 20’s so was perfect for exploring.

We stayed in Venice right on the beach and woke up every morning to a view of palm trees ,blue skies and blue sea. Our hotel was more like studio apartments but reception were so friendly and the ‘room’ was modern and clean.

We flew with Norwegian air for the first time which wasn’t the best airline but it was very reasonable with return flights coming in at £340.

Hotel (Air venice beach) we chose based on location near where friends lived and also it was reasonable next to the bigger hotel chains-LA is quite expensive for accommodation. We had an ocean front room with gorgeous views.

Now for the fun part-food and drink recommendations oh and of course spots for the instagram fam.

I only went for a week with two nights spent in Vegas so squeezed a lot into our stay.

Breakfast spots:

Egg Slut– yes you read right , it is called egg slut and it’s so tasty. There’s a few in LA but we visited the one in venice. They do mainly egg baps with choice of  eggs any way you want them, cheese and bacon or sausage but also do baked eggs with baguette dippers. Check it out HERE

Rose Cafe– this is in Venice also and is so pretty with an outside out the back of the cafe where you can sip mimosas with your breakfast sandwich or smashed avocado and poached eggs. Their bakery is devine -the beignets are a must try! Rose Cafe

Lunch/Brunch spots:

Catch–  Catch is a celeb haunt during the evening and night and must be booked in advance. We went for brunch and ordered so much food and it did not disappoint -the food here is so so good. Delicious. We had the black cod lettuce wraps(divine), lobster, crab cake, shrimp tempura(amazing) , avocado toast with poached egg(delish) , lobster mac and cheese(uhmazing also) and some vegetable sushi.

The Beverly Hills Hotel- I mean this is a must if you are visiting LA for the first time. A gorgeous hotel that to me is iconic. It’s so pretty inside and majorly instagramable . The service here is great. Full of business men having meetings and housewives having a ladies luncheon. Also spotted a few celebs whilst sipping on our cocktails. I’d reccomend the burger and the cocktails are so good too -I got a think pink(low calorie apparently-citron vodka, agave, strawberries etc) and a blueberry lavender fizz(blueberry vodka, lavender, mint, soda). I could have sat there in the sun people watching and eves dropping all day whilst sipping on a think pink. Book in advance and request the polo lounge or cabana.

Rose Cafe is also great for lunch-see above.

Alfreds tea room:  Such a cute spot. You can see from their instagram why people flock here for pics but they also do  hundreds of teas. Boba tea, matcha tea, herbal tea, iced tea..literally any tea you want they will have. They brew their teas for a certain time period also with each tea getting their own little timer. Great spot for a tea,a pastry and a picture – not for  a big lunch. I picked up one of their pink slogan mugs to take home too 🙂

Chateau Marmont:Another iconic hollywood hangout. Again needs to be booked in advance. The brunch menu is delish and they serve brunch until 5pm on weekends.

Dinner spots:

Catch-see above and great for dinner as you can stay on after for drinks.

The Nice Guy-book well in advance. A Kardashian fave and another celeb hotspot! Nice Guy

Gjelina-gorge food here it’s in venice and is a typical cool and laid back LA spot with no name above the door ,it’s dark and cosy setting is perfect for a relaxed dinner. I got the pizza and duck pate. Check the menu HERE

Nobu Malibu: An early dinner at Nobu watching the sunset whilst eating some black cod or sushi.

To Do’s

Venice Beach:Weird and wonderful. A must see-full of all the stereotypical things you think of when you think of LA-gorgeous girls on rollerblades, fit men working out, eccentric types selling crystals and telling fortunes. Just take a stroll along the sidewalk here or rent a bike in the sunshine and cycle past muscle beach to see the sweaty muscles on show. Also lost of gorgeous restaurants around the venice area(not on the beach) Egg Slut and Gjelina are down this way too.

Santa Monica:Santa Monica pier is so cute and lively -we went for a late dinner to el Frisco and strolled down the pier to see the big wheel and all the stalls. Grab some candy floss or popcorn and jump on that ferris wheel!

Hollywood Sign Hike:One of my favourite things I’ve done here -we started at the sunset ranch entrance and it takes about 3.5 miles. The views are gorgeous in the hills and of course those instagram worthy hollywood sign photo ops are worth the trek!

Hollywood Walk Of Fame: Tacky I know but so much fun oohing and ahhing at all the names on the stars you come across. We laughed our way through and reminisced on all the greats.  Soon many stars fyi so we just did 2 sides of the street where the chin theatre is which was ideal.

Sprinkles Cupcake ATM: I had seen so many pics of these on instagram and was dying to get there , genius idea from their marketing team. I’m also a cupcake fiend so not only did I get a fab insta pic but a delicious red velvet cupcake..ok I also got a salted caramel one(don’t judge me). It’s just next to the actual sprinkles bakery  so they’re not sat inside the atm they are made fresh in the bakery and ready within a minute to catch in the atm when ordered. This is one block up from rodeo drive also so you can kill two birds with the one stone(I’ve only just now realised how awful that saying is).

Of course there are a lot more activities to do and places to see whilst in the city of angels these are just a few I’ve samples and I definitely need to go back to do more like a baseball/basketball game, a warner brothers tour or universal tour etc etc..

We also did a gals road trip down to Vegas and stayed in Encore at the Wynn which is a gorgeous hotel that I would definitely recommend!

Any questions or other recommendations just ask 🙂
